COMPOSITION

Santie and Tommie stay in House Pikkewyn with 12 boys. The youngest is 9 and the eldest 18 years old.

INTERESTS AND ACHIEVEMENTS

The boys are keen at playing rugby. One of the boys who will be finishing school at the end of the year, play rugby for the 1st team of Maluti Hoogland Special School.

CHURCH AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

The Dutch Reformed Churches that are involved are Bethlehem East, Tweeling, Petrus Steyn and Cornelia.

Bethlehem East is very involved. Every year they provide our children who are leaving school with clothing of their own choice for their matric farewell. Boys being confirmed at church also receive clothing of their choice. The Cornelia church presented us with sufficient money to buy a DVD player for our house.

Once a term, we are all invited to the Wimpy for a free meal. In many instances we receive fruit, vegetables and “mielies” from the community.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE HOUSE

We live on the top floor and our balcony provides us with a beautiful view of the town. We have a nice park in front of our door that was constructed by the “house father” and the boys of Pikkewyn. We also have a garden at our entrance.

CHURCH AND SCHOOL PARTICIPATION

We attend the Dutch Reformed Church Bethlehem East and the boys also participate in the Sunday school.

The boys attend Maluti Hoogland Special School and Truida Kestell Primary School.

NEEDS

  • For the TV-room we need a lounge set.
  • In the kitchen we need a stofe and kitchen equipment
  • We also need a kettle, iron and bedding for the boy who leaves school at the end of the year.
